8階のライトコートには、今回のトリエンナーレに合わせて、薔薇園が作られた。

キプロス生まれのクリストドゥロス・パナヨトゥの作品で、造園にあたっては、造園家・糟谷護がデザインを担当した。

300種類ほどの薔薇が植えられているとのこと。それらは、新たな”薔薇製品”を開発する段階で、最終的には選ばれなかった薔薇だという。

”落選の花園”と名付けられたその作品は、明らかに資本主義批判の作品となっている。

A rose garden has been created in the Light Court on the 8th floor to coincide with the Triennale.

The garden is the work of Cyprus-born Christodoulos Panayiotou, and was designed by landscape architect Mamoru Kasuya.

Approximately 300 varieties of roses have been planted. These are roses that were ultimately not selected during the development stage of new "rose products."

The work, titled "Garden of Rejected Roses," is a clear critique of capitalism.

花つながりということで、ライトコートからすぐの部屋には、浅野友理子の花をテーマにした作品が展示されていた。

浅野は、様々な土地を訪ねて、その土地に根付いた植物と、そこに暮らす人々の暮らしをテーマに作品を制作しているという。

洋の東西を問わず、花は常にアートのテーマになってきた。

最も古典的と言われるテーマからは、常に新たなアートの芽が生まれてきているようだ。

Continuing the theme of flowers, a room just off the light court featured an exhibition of flower-themed works by Yuriko Asano.

Asano visits various places to create works themed around the plants that take root in those places and the lives of the people who live there.

Flowers have always been a theme in art, both in the East and the West.

It seems that the seeds of new art are always emerging from what is considered the most classic of themes.

その同じ部屋には、実にインパクトの強い作品が展示されていた。

スーダンで生まれ、現在はシャルジャなどで活動するカマラ・イブラヒム・イシャグの作品は、好むと好まざるに関わらず、強烈な印象を見るものに与える。

1937年生まれのイシャグは、スーダンの芸術運動ハルツーム派として活動し、アフリカの現代アートに大きな影響を与えてきた人物だという。

スーダンの伝統的な美意識に反対するクリスタリストの創設メンバーでもある彼女の作品は、ニューヨークのMOMAにも収蔵されている。

人々あるいは一族のつながりを表しているような作品だが、とにかく、”キモかわいい”その顔の表情は、決して記憶から消え去ることはないだろう。

In the same room, there was another piece on display that truly made an impact.

The work of Kamala Ibrahim Ishagh, who was born in Sudan and currently works in Sharjah and other areas, leaves a strong impression on the viewer, whether you like it or not.

Born in 1937, Ishagh was active as part of the Khartoum School, a Sudanese art movement that has had a major influence on contemporary African art.

She was a founding member of the Crystallists, who opposed traditional Sudanese aesthetics, and her work is also housed in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Perhaps the work represents the connections between people or families, but in any case, the "gross-cute" expressions on her faces are sure to never be forgotten.
