棟方志功展 言葉のちから（日本民藝館） Shiko Munakata Ⅰ - Inspiration from Words (Japan Folk Crafts Museum)

1975年に棟方志功が亡くなってから、今年で50年。

日本民藝館では、3回にわたって、棟方志功をテーマにした展覧会が実施される。

第1回目は、言葉のちから、と題して、様々な詩人の言葉を元に制作した版画作品が展示された。

日本民藝館では、ここ何年か、入り口でスリッパに履き替えて、自分の靴は備え付けのバッグに入れて持ち込むというシステムを取っている。

その手続きを終えて、いざ、と思った矢先に、正面の階段の両脇に展示されていた、保田與重郎らの詩と山裾の風景を描いた色鮮やかな版画作品に、目が釘付けになってしまった。

棟方志功は、最も好きなアーティストの一人で、青森の棟方志功記念館を訪れるほどだったが、これほど、”言葉”を意識して、その作品をじっくりと味わったことは、これまでにはなかった。

”大和し美し”や”善知鳥版画巻”など、何点かの版画が連作で展示されることが多かったので、恥ずかしながら、その一つ一つを、言葉の一言一言まで、意識したことがなかった。

今回の日本民藝館の棟方志功展では、その建物の雰囲気も手伝ってか、そうした細部へと、自然と誘われていたようだった。

こうなると、時間と集中力はいくらあっても足りない。

午後3時過ぎくらいに着いたのだが、まだ全ての展示を見終わっていないのに、閉館まで30分を切るほどになってしまった。

冒頭にも書いた通り、この後、後2回、棟方志功展がこの日本民藝館で行われる。

次回は、体力を整えて、もっと時間に余裕を持って訪れないといけない。

This year marks 50 years since Munakata Shiko passed away in 1975.

The Japan Folk Crafts Museum will hold three exhibitions themed on Munakata Shiko.

The first exhibition, titled "Inspiration from Words" displayed prints based on the words of various poets.

For the past few years, the Japan Folk Crafts Museum has had a system where visitors change into slippers at the entrance and carry their shoes in a bag provided.

Just as I was about to enter after completing this procedure, my eyes were drawn to the colorful prints on both sides of the front staircase, depicting poems by Yasuda Yojuro and other artists and landscapes at the foot of the mountain.

Munakata Shiko is one of my favorite artists, and I have even visited the Munakata Shiko Memorial Museum in Aomori, but I have never been so conscious of "words" and thoroughly enjoyed his works.

Since several prints, such as "Yamato Shi Utsukushii" and "Zenchidori Hanga Scroll", were often exhibited as a series, I'm ashamed to say that I had never paid much attention to each of them, even to the words on each page.

At this Munakata Shiko exhibition at the Japan Folk Crafts Museum, perhaps due to the atmosphere of the building, I felt naturally drawn to these details.

When this happens, no amount of time or concentration is enough.

I arrived just after 3pm, and even though I hadn't finished looking at all the exhibits, there were already less than 30 minutes left until closing time.

As I wrote at the beginning, there are two more Munakata Shiko exhibitions at the Japan Folk Crafts Museum.

Next time, I'll have to be in shape and visit with more time to spare.
