あいち2025 - その6（愛知芸術文化センター） Aichi Triennale 2025: Part-6 (Aichi Arts Center)

シリアのダマスカスで生まれ、現在はロンドンで活動するハラーイル・サルキシアンの作品。

その作品は、失われてしまった、博物館の収蔵品の写真だった。

This is a work by Halal Sarkissian, who was born in Damascus, Syria, and currently lives and works in London.

The work is a photograph of a museum collection that had been lost.

 

それらは、かつてはシリアのラッカにあった博物館に収蔵されていた。8,000点以上の収蔵品があったという。

しかし、それらは、イスラム国によって、そのほとんどが破壊や略奪されてしまった。

人類の歴史は、ほぼイコールで戦争の歴史であり、破壊と略奪の歴史だった、と言ってもいい。

その事実を、改めて突きつけられる展示だった。

These items were once stored in a museum in Raqqa, Syria. It is said that the collection consisted of over 8,000 items.

However, most of them were destroyed or looted by the Islamic State.

It is fair to say that the history of mankind is almost entirely a history of war, and a history of destruction and looting.

This exhibition brought this fact home to us once again.

小川待子は、パリに住んでいた頃に、鉱物博物館で鉱物の美しさにとても惹かれたという。

その鉱物を使って、実に美しい作品を作り上げた。

While living in Paris, Ogawa Machiko was captivated by the beauty of minerals she saw at a mineral museum.

She used those minerals to create some truly beautiful artworks.

はじめに目にした時、実際の鉱物そのものでは、と感じたが、よくよく見ると、鉱物とミックスメディアが組み合わされている。

When I first saw them, I thought they were actual minerals, but on closer inspection, I saw that they were a combination of minerals and mixed media.

小川待子は、夫の人類学者の助手として、西アフリカで土器作りを学んだということだが、作品の制作には、そうした経験も活かされているようだ。

それにしても、とにかく美しい。

美しさという点では、今回のトリエンナーレの中でも、屈指の展示の一つだった。

Ogawa Machiko learned pottery making in West Africa while assisting her anthropologist husband, and it seems that she has made use of this experience in her works.

But even so, the works are simply beautiful.

In terms of beauty, this was one of the best exhibits at this Triennale.
