感情、表徴、情念 ゴダールの『イメージの本』について展（王城ビル） Sentiments Signes Passions, à propos du Livre d'image, J.L. Godard (Ohjo Building)

ゴダールの『イメージの本』を渋谷のシネスイッチで見たのは、2019年のこと。

それは、映画館で初めて見た、ゴダールの映画だった。

それまで、テレビで『勝手にしやがれ』などの何本かの作品は目にしていたが、初めて映画館で見たゴダール作品ということで、それは思い入れの深い作品になった。

その『イメージの本』が、展覧会になって日本で開催中だという。

しかも会場は、渋谷の歌舞伎町の中にある、古くて怪しげな雰囲気の残る王城ビル。

入り口で入場料を払い、まずは2階に階段で上がる。その階段からすでに展示が始まっている。

映画の展覧会ということで、通常は、制作に関する資料、使われた衣装やセットの一部、などを展示するのが普通だろう。

しかし、『イメージの本』という映画自体、ゴダール自身の作品も含めて、様々な映画作品や絵画作品を切り抜いてつなげている映画だ。セットや衣装はない。

展示というより、大きな白い布や壁に映像を映したり、ディスプレイをあちこちに配置するという構成だった。

また、所々には、アンナ・カレニーナなどの小説や、クレーの画集、シオランの哲学書などが無造作に置かれていて、それを自由に読むことができるようになっていた。

『イメージの本』は、映像の引用だけでなく、絵画や書物からの引用などでも構成されていることを思い出した。

写されている映画の映像は、公開された映画とは違った順序になっている。この展覧会の映像は、元になっている映画作品とは別な作品になっている、と考えた方がいいだろう。

ああこの映像はあったなあ、とか、あれ？、こんな映像あったけ？という感じで、2階から4階まで、時に置かれている椅子に座りながら、時にカーペットで足を伸ばしながら、映画館とは違った雰囲気の会場で、だらだらと『イメージの本』”みたいなもの”を、楽しんだ。

この展覧会のキュレーター、ファブリス・アラーニョ。『イメージの本』のプロデューサーの一人でもあり、制作でもゴダールを支えた。

会場には、Webカメラが設置されていて、アラーニョはスイスから会場の様子を時折、確認しているという。

また1階に戻ってきて、受付の隣に、ゴダール自身が『イメージの本』について語っている映像に気がついた。

この映画は5つの章から成るが、それは人間の5本の指を表していること、人間の本質はその手で考えることだ・・・などど、この映画について語っていた。

当然のことながら、改めて映画『イメージの本』を見たくなってきた。

I saw Godard's "The Book of Images" at Shibuya's Cinema Switch in 2019.

It was the first Godard film I saw at a movie theater.

Until then, I had seen some of his works, such as "Breathless," on TV, but it was the first Godard film I saw at a movie theater, so it became a work that I had a deep attachment to.

The "Book of Images" is now being held in Japan as an exhibition.

The venue is the old and suspicious Ohjo Building in Kabukicho, Shibuya.

After paying the admission fee at the entrance, you first go up the stairs to the second floor. The exhibition has already started from there.

As a film exhibition, it would normally be normal to display materials related to the production, costumes used, and parts of the sets.

However, the film "The Book of Images" itself is a film that cuts and connects various films and paintings, including Godard's own works. There are no sets or costumes.

Rather than an exhibition, it was a structure in which images were projected onto large white cloths and walls, and displays were placed here and there.

Also, novels such as Anna Karenina, Klee's art books, and Cioran's philosophical books were placed here and there, and people were free to read them.

I remembered that "Image Book" is composed of not only images, but also quotations from paintings and books.

The film images shown are in a different order from the released film. It is better to think of this exhibition as a different film work from the original film.

I remember thinking, "Oh, I remember this image," or "Huh? Was there this image?" I enjoyed "Image Book" "something like that" lazily from the second to fourth floors, sitting on chairs placed from time to time, especially stretching my legs on the carpet, in a venue with a different atmosphere from a movie theater.

Fabrice Aragno, the curator of this exhibition. He was also one of the producers of Les Books de Images, and supported Godard during the production.

A webcam was installed in the venue, and Aragno occasionally checked the situation at the venue from Switzerland.

Returning to the first floor, I noticed a video of Godard himself talking about Les Books de Images, next to the reception desk.

He said that the film is made up of five chapters, which represent the five fingers of a human being, and that the true essence of human beings is to think with their hands.

Naturally, this made me want to watch Les Books de Images again.
