1945年の記憶（ギャラリー85） Memories of 1945: 80 Years after the War (Gallery 85)

ギャラリー85という銀座のギャラリーを、今回、初めて訪れた。

ギャリーが入っている琉映ビルは、銀座レンガ通り沿いにあり、一度は、通り過ぎてしまったほど、目立たないビルだった。

随分と古いビルのようで、階段の佇まいは昭和そのもの。

時代から取り残されたしまったようなビルに、現代アートのギャラリーがあるというのが、とてもいい。

ギャラリーの中は、四方の白い壁に作品が整然と展示されているだけのスペースだったが、最終日とあって、それなりに混み合っていた。

赤瀬川原平や篠原有司男は、それぞれ1937年、1932年生まれで、終戦の時はまだ少年だった。

中村宏、吉野辰海もほほ同年代の生まれだが、二人のことは、寡聞にもこの展覧会で初めて知った。

石内都は、出展作家の中では唯一の戦後生まれだが、「ひろしま」シリーズを今も制作し続けている。

今年で、戦争が終わって80年になる。

当時の記憶を持っている人々は少なくなり、新たな戦争の足音も近づいている状況にあって、アーティストたちが、幼いときに戦争をどのように体験し、それをどのような作品にしたのかを知ることは、意味のあることであるに違いない。

This was my first visit to Gallery 85 in Ginza.

The Ryuei Building, which houses the gallery, is located along Ginza Brick Street, and is such an inconspicuous building that I passed it by once.

It seems like a very old building, and the appearance of the stairs is the very image of the Showa era.

It's great that a contemporary art gallery is located in a building that seems to have been left behind by the times.

Inside the gallery, there is just a space where works are displayed in an orderly fashion on the four white walls, but since it was the last day of the exhibition, it was quite crowded.

Genpei Akasegawa and Ushio Shinohara were born in 1937 and 1932, respectively, and were still young boys when the war ended.

Hiroshi Nakamura and Tatsumi Yoshino were born in roughly the same generation, but I learned about them for the first time at this exhibition.

Miyako Ishiuchi is the only artist exhibiting who was born after the war, but she continues to produce her "Hiroshima" series.

This year marks 80 years since the end of the war.

With fewer people who remember that time and the footsteps of a new war drawing near, it is surely meaningful to learn how artists experienced the war as children and what kind of works they created based on that experience.
