あいち2025 - その15（愛知県陶磁美術館） Aichi Triennale 2025: Part-15 (Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum)

 

マリリン・ボロル・ボールはグアテマラに生まれ、マヤ・カクチケル族にルーツを持っているという。

そうした出自から、先住民のアイデンティティや歴史的記憶、反植民地主義などをテーマにした作品を製作している。

マヤの先住民たちが使っていた陶器が一方に展示され、別な場所にはその陶器からコンクリートが流れ落ちていて、そのコンクリートが先住民たちの表情を描いている。

Marilyn Borol-Ball was born in Guatemala and has roots in the Mayan Kaqchikel people.

Inspired by this origin, she creates works that explore themes such as indigenous identity, historical memory, and anti-colonialism.

Pottery used by indigenous Mayans is on display in one area, and in another, concrete has flowed from the pottery, depicting the expressions of indigenous people.

オーストラリアのシドニー生まれのヤスミン・スミスの作品は、横に長い展示スペースの中央に、いくつかの石のようなものが、展示されているだけだった。

これらの物は、オーストラリアの炭鉱から採取した石灰から、この石のような型に流し込んで製作した物だという。

左側の石灰は、何と3億年前に遡れるものだと言う、最も新しい右側の石灰でも、2000万年前ほどだという。

普段、あまり特別に気にすることのない、石灰という存在に、壮大な歴史の流れがあったことを知り、驚きのアート作品だった。

Sydney, Australia-born Yasmin Smith's work consisted of simply a number of stone-like objects displayed in the centre of a long, horizontal exhibition space.

These objects were made by pouring limestone extracted from Australian coal mines into stone-like molds.

The limestone on the left is said to date back an astonishing 300 million years, while the youngest, on the right, is only about 20 million years old.

It was an amazing artwork, as it taught me that lime, something we don't usually pay much attention to, has a magnificent history.
