扇影衣香（鎌倉国宝館） Fan shadows and fragrant clothes (Kamakura Kokuhokan Museum)

 

鎌倉時代、中国や朝鮮半島からもたらされた仏教絵画、それに影響を受けた日本の仏教絵画などを展示した展覧会。

元時代に描かれたと言われる、五百羅漢図。そんな昔の時代に描かれたとは思えないほどの色鮮やかを今も保っている。

その横には、南北朝時代に明兆が描いた、京都・東福寺の五百羅漢図。

構図がよく似ており、その関係性について、現在、研究が進められているという。

帽子を被った地蔵菩薩が描かれている、珍しい被帽地蔵菩薩像。高麗時代に描かれたもので、円覚寺に伝わっている。

そして、この展覧会のチラシにも使われている、建長寺の水月観音像。南宋〜元時代にかけて描かれた色鮮やかな仏画。

仏画ながら、観音様の姿は実にエロチックで、画面下の善財童子を誘惑しているようだ。

国宝館を訪れた時期は、ちょうど虫干しの時期に合わせて、鎌倉にある古寺では普段は公開されない宝物が展示される時期だった。

国宝館に行く前に、北鎌倉の駅を降りて、円覚寺と建長寺を訪れた。

円覚寺では、国宝館でも展示されていた五百羅漢図が、数多く展示されていた。

建長寺では、国宝館の展示リストにも載っていて、この時期だけは建長寺に展示されている、伝牧谿の牧谿猿や、蘭渓道隆蔵なども見ることができた。

This exhibition displays Buddhist paintings brought from China and the Korean Peninsula during the Kamakura period, as well as Japanese Buddhist paintings influenced by them.

This painting, said to date from the Yuan dynasty, retains such vivid colors that it's hard to believe it was painted so long ago.

Next to it is the Five Hundred Arhats, painted by Myocho during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period at Tofukuji Temple in Kyoto.

Their compositions are very similar, and research is currently underway to determine their relationship.

This rare statue of Jizo Bodhisattva wearing a hat is a rare painting from the Goryeo dynasty and is now on display at Engakuji Temple.

And the Water Moon Kannon statue from Kenchoji Temple, featured on the exhibition flyer, is a vibrant Buddhist painting painted between the Southern Song and Yuan dynasties.

Although it is a Buddhist painting, the figure of Kannon is deeply erotic, as if seducing Zenzai Doji at the bottom of the painting.

My visit to the National Treasure Museum coincided with airing out season, when Kamakura's ancient temples exhibit treasures that are not normally on display.

Before going to the National Treasure Museum, I got off at Kita-Kamakura station and visited Engaku-ji and Kencho-ji.

At Engaku-ji, there were many of the 500 Arhats on display, which are also on display at the National Treasure Museum.

At Kencho-ji, I was able to see the Muxi Monkey attributed to Muxi and Rankei Doryuzo, which are on display at Kencho-ji Temple only at this time of year and are also on display at the National Treasure Museum.
