磯崎新：群島としての建築④（水戸芸術館） Arata Isozaki: Archipelagos of Architecture Part-4 (Art Tower Mito)

ギャラリーの中央に当たるピラミッド・キューブには、この水戸芸術館の模型が展示されていた。

英語名では、Art Tower Mitoと表記されるこの建物。模型を見ると、タワーの大きさが圧倒的で、その名前にも納得がいく。

その背後には、磯崎が世界各地を訪れた際に残した、様々なスケッチが展示されていた。

続く最後のキューブでは、磯崎の初期からの様々な建築が模型で紹介されていた。

奈義町現代美術館、つくばセンタービル、群馬県立近代美術館、ロス・アンジェルス現代美術館、北九州市立美術館などなど。

磯崎は、大分出身ということで、大分や九州の多くのパトロンから注文があった。

福岡相互銀行本店ビルは、そうしたつながりで依頼された建築で、内部には宮脇愛子や高松次郎などの作品も展示されていた。

磯崎は、福岡相互銀行のいくつかの支店の建物の設計も行なっている。

A model of Art Tower Mito was on display in the pyramid cube in the center of the gallery.

The building's English name is Art Tower Mito. Looking at the model, the tower's overwhelming size makes its name quite understandable.

Behind it were various sketches Isozaki left behind during his travels around the world.

The final cube displayed models of various buildings from Isozaki's early days.

These included the Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art, Tsukuba Center Building, Gunma Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, and Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art.

As Isozaki was originally from Oita, he received orders from many patrons in Oita and Kyushu.

The Fukuoka Mutual Bank Head Office Building was commissioned through these connections, and its interior featured works by artists such as Aiko Miyawaki and Jiro Takamatsu.

Isozaki also designed several branch buildings for the bank.
