今に続く柳宗悦の心と眼（韓国文化院） Spirit and vision of Yanagi Soetsu now (Korean Culture Center)

柳宗悦は、1936年と1937年に、陶芸家の河井寛次郎や濱田庄司らと共に全羅道や慶尚道などの各地をまわり、当時の工芸作家たちと交流し、その作品を購入した。

その旅の記録を、日本民藝館に残る作品や写真などと合わせて紹介した、魅力的な展覧会。

この施設では、2022年に柳宗悦と韓国の関係をテーマにした展覧会が行われた。

その際は、この1936年と1937年の旅行は、一つのテーマとして紹介されたが、今回は、より詳細に旅の様子が紹介された。

個性的な形をした箒、装飾はなくシンプルでありながら見るものの心を離さない器や竹細工、色鮮やかな扇子などなど。

柳たちが覚えたであろう感動を、90年を経た人々も同じように感じることができる。

最後には、現代の工芸家たちの作品も展示されていた。

時代の流れの中で、一時は消滅も危ぶまれた韓国の伝統工芸は、現在では国の保護のもとで、世代を超えて引き継がれているという。

韓国の伝統が失われることを危惧していた柳宗悦、河井寛次郎、濱田庄司らに、その良い知らせを是非伝えたいものだ。

This fascinating exhibition showcases the journey's records alongside artworks and photographs preserved at the Japan Folk Crafts Museum.

In 2022, the same facility held an exhibition themed on Yanagi Muneyoshi's relationship with Korea.

At that time, the 1936 and 1937 trips were featured as a single theme, but this time, the journey was presented in more detail.

Uniquely shaped brooms, simple yet captivating vessels and bamboo crafts, vibrantly colored fans, and more.

People 90 years on can still feel the same emotion that Yanagi and his friends felt.

Finally, works by contemporary artisans were also on display.

Traditional Korean crafts, once in danger of disappearing over the course of time, are now being passed down through generations under national protection.

This is good news for Yanagi Muneyoshi, Kawai Kanjiro, Hamada Shoji, and others who feared the loss of Korean traditions.
