民藝 MINGEI–美は暮らしのなかにある（千葉県立美術館） MINGEI: The Beauty of Everyday Things (Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art)

2023年から2025年にかけて、全国各地に巡回した民藝展。

2024年に世田谷美術館で行われた展覧会を訪れた。

民藝運動を立ち上げた柳宗悦は、一時期、千葉の我孫子に住んでいた時期がある。

柳宗悦と千葉の関係を示す、他の会場にはない特別な展示が行われると知って、千葉展にも足を運んでみた。

世田谷展の時に入手した図録には、千葉県立美術館の名前はない。元々は予定にはなかったが、新たに開催地として追加されたようだ。

最初のコーナーでは、1941年に日本民藝館で行われた”生活展”の再現展示。

日本のみならず、世界の民藝品も含めた展示で、民藝を使った生活がどのようなものなのかをアピールしている。

濱田庄司や河井寛次郎の陶器や、イギリスのスリップウェアなどを使った毎日の生活は、さぞ、美しい暮らしになることだろう。

その後は、衣・食・住という3つのテーマで、お馴染みの様々な民藝の名品を展示。

最後は、世界の民藝品と、小鹿田や丹波などの代表的な民藝品の生産地の現在が紹介されていた。

流れていたビデオによれば、残念ながら、作るための原料が少なくなったり、後継者がいなかったりと、民藝の生産地は厳しい現実に直面しているようだ。

柳宗悦と千葉の関係を伝える展示は、ささやかな内容だったが、大高正人の設計したメタボリズム建築の中で行われた民藝展は、格別な体験となった。

The Mingei Exhibition toured around the country from 2023 to 2025.

I visited the exhibition held at the Setagaya Art Museum in 2024.

Muneyoshi Yanagi, who launched the Mingei movement, once lived in Abiko, Chiba.

I visited the Chiba exhibition after learning that there would be a special exhibition showing the relationship between Yanagi and Chiba that was not available at other venues.

The catalog I obtained at the Setagaya exhibition did not include the name of the Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art. It was not originally planned, but it seems to have been added as a new venue.

The first corner is a reproduction of the "Life Exhibition" held at the Japan Folk Crafts Museum in 1941.

The exhibition includes not only Japanese but also international folk crafts, and appeals to what life using folk crafts is like.

Living a daily life using pottery by Shoji Hamada and Kanjiro Kawai, British slipware, and other items would be a very beautiful life.

Then, various familiar masterpieces of folk art were exhibited under the three themes of food, clothing, and shelter.

Finally, there was an introduction to folk art from around the world and the current state of representative folk art production areas such as Onta and Tamba.

According to the video that was playing, unfortunately, folk art production areas seem to be facing a harsh reality, with fewer raw materials to make and a lack of successors.

The exhibit conveying the relationship between Yanagi and Chiba was modest, but the folk art exhibition held in the Metabolism building designed by Otaka Masato was an exceptional experience.
