ラムセス大王展（CREVIA BASE Tokyo） Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs (CREVIA BASE Tokyo)

古代エジプト、新王国第19代王朝のファラオで、古代エジプトで最も偉大なファラオとされる、ラムセス2世をテーマにした、大規模な国際展。

博物館とは違った巨大な特設会場で、約180点の展示品もスペースを持って展示されており、所々に巨大なスクリーンでのビデオ上映、解説のパネルなどが設置されて、通常の展覧会と違ったエンターテイメントに溢れた内容だった。

ラムセス2世は、90歳で亡くなるまでの間、70年という歴代ファラオの中では驚くほど長期間ファラオとして君臨した。

有名なカデシュの戦いなどの多くの戦いによって積極的に領土の拡大を図り、アブ・シンベル神殿に代表される巨大な建築物を残した。

最初に、ラムセス2世の生涯を紹介するビデオが流されて、見終わると展示場への入り口が開く。その入り口の正面で、ラムセス2世の巨像の頭部が来場者を迎える。

展示品は、そのラムセス2世の若い頃の彫像やオベリスク、カデシュの戦いを描いたレリーフ、王妃やゆかりの人物にまつわる展示、歴代のファラオたちの黄金のマスクや豪華な金の装飾品、動物のミイラなど。

展示スペースの最後には、ラムセス2世の巨大な棺が恭しく展示されていた。

レバノン杉で作られたというその棺は、当初はその表面に下地が塗られていたせいかもしれないが、まるでつい最近作られたように綺麗な状態で残されていて、3000年以上前に作られたとは、俄かには信じれらないほどだった。

これまで、大英博物館やベルリン美術館の収蔵品による古代エジプト展など、数多く見てきたが、それらと比べても、今回の展示内容は明らかに充実していた。

その分、入場料も通常の展覧会に比べると高価だったが。

This large-scale international exhibition is themed on Ramses II, the pharaoh of the 19th dynasty of the New Kingdom and considered the greatest pharaoh of ancient Egypt.

The exhibition is held in a huge special venue, unlike a museum, with about 180 exhibits on display, and with video screenings on huge screens and explanatory panels set up here and there, it was full of entertainment that was different from a normal exhibition.

Ramses II reigned as pharaoh for an astonishingly long period of time among the pharaohs, 70 years, until his death at the age of 90.

He actively expanded his territory through many battles, including the famous Battle of Kadesh, and left behind huge buildings such as the Abu Simbel Temple.

First, a video introducing the life of Ramses II is played, and after watching it, the entrance to the exhibition hall opens. In front of the entrance, the head of a colossus statue of Ramses II welcomes visitors.

The exhibits included statues and obelisks of Ramses II when he was young, a relief depicting the Battle of Kadesh, exhibits related to the queen and people associated with him, golden masks and luxurious gold ornaments of past pharaohs, and animal mummies.

At the end of the exhibition space, a huge coffin of Ramses II was respectfully displayed.

The coffin, made of cedar of Lebanon, was in such good condition that it looked as if it had been made just recently, perhaps because it had originally been painted with a primer, and it was hard to believe that it was made more than 3,000 years ago.

I have seen many ancient Egyptian exhibitions from the British Museum and the Berlin Museum of Art, but the content of this exhibition was clearly more substantial than those.

The admission fee was therefore higher than that of regular exhibitions.
