あいち2025 - その2（愛知芸術文化センター） Aichi Triennale 2025 : Part-2 (Aichi Arts Center)

愛知芸術文化センター、10階の最初の部屋に入ると、入り口の華やかな雰囲気はなくなり、見慣れた”展覧会”の雰囲気。

この部屋では、杉本博司の写真作品と、太田三郎、水谷清、宮本三郎の絵画作品が展示されていた。

杉本博司の写真に写っている動物は、生きている動物ではなく、博物館にある複製。

いわゆる”ジオラマ”シリーズの作品だが、知らないと、本当のジャングルの様子を撮影したのでは？と思ってしまう。

Upon entering the first room on the 10th floor of the Aichi Arts Center, the glamorous atmosphere of the entrance is gone, replaced by the familiar atmosphere of an exhibition.

This room exhibited photographs by Sugimoto Hiroshi, as well as paintings by Ota Saburo, Mizutani Kiyoshi, and Miyamoto Saburo.

The animals in Sugimoto Hiroshi's photographs are not live animals, but replicas kept at the museum.

This is a work from the so-called "diorama" series, but if you don't know about it, you might think it was a photo of a real jungle.

 

3人の画家の作品は、いずれも、名古屋の東山動物園の猛獣画廊の壁画用として、1948年に描かれた。

太平洋戦争によって、東山動物園の動物たちは、脱走を恐れて殺されたり、餓死などによって多くが死んでしまった。

訪れる人々に、せめて絵で動物たちを見てほしいという思いと、早く動物たちが戻ってきて欲しい、という2つの思いが、絵の制作の背景にはあったようだ。

しかし、動物たちの視点で見れば、人間たちの単なる身勝手ということになる。

動物園という存在のあり方や、人間は動物たちとどのように付き合っていけばいいのか、などを考えさせられる。

動物などの生き物と人間の関係。これも今回のトリエンナーレのテーマの一つであったようだ。

All three artists' works were painted in 1948 as murals for the Wild Animals Gallery at Higashiyama Zoo in Nagoya.

During the Pacific War, many of the animals at Higashiyama Zoo were killed for fear of escaping, or died of starvation.

The artists' creations were apparently motivated by two thoughts: a desire for visitors to at least be able to see the animals in paintings, and a desire for the animals to return soon.

However, from the animals' perspective, this is simply human selfishness.

The works make you think about the nature of zoos and how humans should interact with animals.

The relationship between humans and animals and other living things seems to have been one of the themes of this triennale.
