日本の万国博覧会1970-2005（国立近現代建築資料館） World Fair in Japan 1970-2005 (National Archives of Modern Architecture)

今年は、大阪で関西万博が行われている。

上野の国立近現代建築資料館では、これまで日本で行われた5回の万国博覧会の建築資料が、前期と後期に分けて紹介された。

前期は、5回の万博の概要と、1970年に行われた日本での最初の万博の設計図、写真などが展示されていた。

1970年の万博には、丹下健三、菊竹清訓、前川國男、坂倉準三などの、日本の建築界のレジェンドたちの名前が並ぶ。

建築以外にも、企画にはSF作家の小松左京らも参加したし、岡本太郎の太陽の塔は、大会の記録として、今もその地に建っている。

あまりにも、1970年万博の存在感が強すぎて、その後の万博は、”ああ、そんな万博もあったなあ”としか思えない。

とりわけ、様々な政治的な思惑や、カジノへの導線にしか見えないような、現在行われている関西万博とは、比較の対象にさえならないように感じてしまった。

This year, the Kansai Expo is being held in Osaka.

At the National Museum of Modern Japanese Architecture in Ueno, architectural materials from the five World Expos held in Japan were introduced in two parts.

In the first part, an overview of the five World Expos was displayed, as well as blueprints and photos from the first World Expo held in Japan in 1970.

The names of Japanese architectural legends such as Kenzo Tange, Kikutake Kiyonori, Kunio Maekawa, and Junzo Sakakura were on display at the 1970 Expo.

In addition to the architecture, science fiction writer Sakyo Komatsu and others also participated in the planning, and Taro Okamoto's Tower of the Sun still stands there as a record of the event.

The presence of the 1970 Expo was so strong that subsequent Expos just make you think, "Oh, there was an Expo like that."

In particular, it seemed to me that it could not even be compared with the currently ongoing Kansai Expo, which seems to be nothing more than a lead-in to various political motives and casinos.
